Information Report

Since 1st September 2014 all schools have been required to make available an Information Report detailing the identification, assessment and support for children with additional needs.  You will find this report on the link below.  It is a working document and we welcome any comments or queries in order to help us improve it and ensure it is accessible by parents.

Parents speak very positively about the nurturing environment and high levels of individual care that the school provides for pupils....Pupils say that they love their school and that the staff take good care of them. Pupils spoke with conviction about the different needs that pupils have, and the need for everyone to respect each other and be supportive. This was evident in the positive way that pupils behaved towards each other. One child commented, ‘It is a loving and caring school.’ Another explained, ‘It’s small so you are friends with everyone.’ 

You have established a culture where pupils’ needs are the priority of all. Staff and governors describe clear and useful systems which they use robustly and effectively. Teachers and teaching assistants are kept well informed, via regular updates about safeguarding issues and concerns. Leaders check carefully to ensure that all adults know how to recognise and act on signs that a pupil may be at risk of harm. There is a strong sense of ‘it could happen here’ and that everyone needs to be aware. A safeguarding display board encourages pupils to keep themselves safe, reminding them of what they can do and who they can talk to if they are worried about something.

Leaders track each pupil’s progress carefully, to check that their needs are being met well. This is especially the case for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) and the disadvantaged. Teachers are skilled at managing groups and organising activities at different levels for pupils across a range of abilities, which benefits pupils’ learning.   OFSTED INSPECTION REPORT 2018

Smannell and Enham CE school provides a high level of nurture and care to its school community through a strong and established Christian ethos. This is evident in the inclusive and positive caring relationships across the school community and the pupils’ exemplary behaviour seen around the school. 

The Christian character of the school promotes the inclusion of all pupils and additional funding is used effectively so that vulnerable pupils generally make good progress. The school employs an Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) and an Inclusion Leader to ensure pupils’ well-being.  A well-being chart drawn up by the Inclusion Leader explains to stakeholders the different support available, including nurture groups, for vulnerable pupils.  The nurture groups are another excellent example of the caring climate across the school, highly praised by parents who appreciate the early level of support for their children. Parents state that there is a strong partnership between home and school and everyone is valued for who they are. The school is well known for the support given to its pupils and was oversubscribed this year.  SIAMS INSPECTION REPORT 2017
