At Smannell and Enham CE Primary School the teaching of English is designed to instil in children a love of speaking and listening, reading and writing that will last them a lifetime. We aim to inspire an appreciation of our rich and varied literary heritage and a habit of reading widely and often. We want children to be confident in the art of speaking and listening so that they develop their discussion skills in order to communicate and further their learning. We recognise the importance of nurturing a culture where children take pride in their writing, can write clearly and accurately and adapt their language and style for a range of contexts. To achieve this, teachers are focussed on making English interesting and exciting and pupils are engaging in the joy and wonder of books and piquing their imagination and creativity.
